California MPA monitoring

Marine Protected Area Monitoring Data Visualizations

California’s marine protected area (MPA) monitoring, a state-led program, is heading into a new future. As the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and the California Ocean Protection Council develop new products and platforms for showcasing MPA work, this site will act as a bridge, providing existing information on MPAs and fisheries in California.

The applications and blogs on this site are drawn from the retired platform OceanSpaces, which previously served the stateas the go-to place for the latest information on monitoring the state’s MPA network. The California Natural Resources Agency is continuing the development of an open data platform that will eventually house all the data and products, including these applications, related to California’s MPA network. Many of the raw data and reports are already available at https://data.cnra.ca.gov/.
